History of JCI
The origin of Junior Chamber can be traced as far back as 1910, in the city of St Louis, Missouri, United States of America. A young man by the name of Henry "Hy" Giessenbier, a bank cashier, felt that young people acting in a voluntary capacity could fashion a new standard of life for their communities. On October 13, 1915, he called for a meeting with 32 young men present, and an organization was formed under the name of "Young Men's Progressive Civic Association". It was mainly for the community betterment.
The vigor and imagination of the young group attracted the admiration of the St Louis chamber of Commerce, which on February 11, 1918 asked the group to consider the name of "JUNIOR CHAMBER OF COMMERCE", So, the name was born.
The movement spread, and by June 1920, the United State Junior Chamber of Commerce marched on to Canada, New Zealand, Asia, Europe and Africa. By 1928, the idea of international body crossed the Atlantic Ocean to England. In year 1944, when representatives from eight nations met to create an organization that would address global concerns, Junior Chamber International was formed at the first international conference called Inter-America Conference held in Mexico City, Raul on December 11. Since that date, from these eight nations, JCI has grown spanning every continent to include more than 100 nations and inspired hundred of thousands of young people across the face of the earth.
Junior Chamber International has organized several world conferences with the intention to gather together all JCI members from different countries, societies, religion, cultures and economies, to promote sharing and exchange of ideas in order to develop mutual understanding and co-operation. Some of the chapters from different areas had tight up as sister-chapter to encourage everlasting fellowship among each other. They treated Junior Chamber as the path for personal improvement and world peace.
國際青年商會簡史
1915年10月13日在美國密蘇里州聖路易斯巿，一位名叫亨利．葛森宓（Henry Giessenbier）的青年， 和朋友們所發起。在「訓練自己、服務人群」的信念下，聯合青年們一起為地方服務，做一個優良的 公民。1928年，這個偉大的信念也開始在英國成立，積極推展各項社會服務活動，吸引了很多有志青 年的參與。
1944年，時機終於成熟，當年在墨西哥（Mexico）舉行的會議，邀請了美洲及其它地區有青商社團的 國家參加，宣布成立國際青年商會（Junior Chamber International簡稱JCI）並以其成立的日子， 即12月11日，為「國際青商日」（JCI DAY）。 青商會發展至今，已從1946年僅有20個國家，14,000名會員，成長至遍及各大洲，超過91個國家設有 總會，8,600多個地方分會，近四十萬名個人會員；使用四種通訊語言，分別是：法文、西班牙文、英 文、日文；每年召開世界大會及區域性會議。青商會已成為全世界最大的青年組織，而且每年都有新 的分會成立。
青商會每年舉行各項的全球性研討會、區域性交流，把來自世界各個角落，不同社會生活、不同宗教、 不同文化及經濟背景的會員凝聚一起，共同分享和交流觀念和構想，達致更多的了解和合作。 各地的青商會也經由結締為兄弟會或姐妹會，建立起真誠長久的情誼。大家都視青商為改進個人生活 及世界和諧的最佳途徑。
